An ominous conversation.

I called home, "What you doing?"

"Waiting for animal control"

I knew the rest already.

"Hunter's in the crate, he killed two chickens"

"Which ones?"

"A silkie and and a buff, the other buff's missing. We'll have to have a final count tonight".

Animal control will hold the dog to ransom. If the owners bail him out we'll be going around this again.

  1. Can you shoot him?

Not that you would want to but farmers in the UK are allowed to shoot trespassing dogs.

  2. Yes. Any dog worrying stock is fair game here. We had that heavy discussion after the first dead chicken. Hunter's owners didn't seem to realize that it was only after much debate that we didn't make the dog just disappear; they're either clueless or urban.

For better or worse we've now gone the animal control route and we now have to see what happens. I generally don't like dealing with the authorities, the legacy of London and fearing the "filth", but I have been impressed with the animal control lady, she understands the issue and before this latest incident had been around to the dog's owner's house to warn them that they have to control the dog.

I would not be surprised if the owners declined to pay to get Hunter back, in which case I hope he finds a good home - in the city or with large animals.
