Horizontal Snow.

Apologies for the lack of a punch line to the first anecdote in the previous post. I've been bowlderised.

We were promised heavy snow for last night so, the previous evening, I took the opportunity to haul shavings and whatnot down to the barn in case the lane became impassable. It was snowing quite heavily and was very windy.

The snow went by perfectly horizontally leaving the ground bare. "Bare" being a relative term and this being the snow belt.

I had some trouble getting out of the field, the donkey placed himself between the car and the gate. Each time he seemed to wander off and I reached for the gate, back he came. This wasn't helped by the darkness and blowing snow as I couldn't see how far he'd actually gone. I was at the point of tying him up when he trotted off and I made a run for the gate. I got through and jumped from the car just in time to catch him in the gateway.

Eventually he'll do it. Donkeys live a long time and people's attention wanders.
