Some illustrations to give an idea of the problems described in the previous post.

Here's the patient, nervously awaiting her fate

this is part of the audience, peering from under the door

First Dixie needs a pad soaked in some magic potion

then a layer of vet wrap, this stuff sticks to itself as it's wound on, a mixed blessing

next comes a baby's diaper or, for those of you listening at home, a baby's nappy

Here's an expression of disgust at it all, fortunately not accompanied by kicking or any other sort of tantrum

After the nappy comes a layer of duct tape, I expect there's some sort of equine duct tape endorsed by stars of rodeo and jumping ring but this is the ordinary type of duct tape that holds Red Green's life together.

A problem with all of this that having one foot sored gives Dixie half the gait of a Teneesee walker, it's horribly wobbly. She hops around snorting, whinnying and giving out piteous grunts.

Another problem is that it has to be done again the next day, here's the procedure in progress with the patient standing

It's a good thing you's loved.

  1. Wow, what an ordeal. Do you have to do that *every* day? I remember when some of my rabbits were on quarantine and I had to feed them separately and spray their ears with an aerosol spray. Only took a few extra minutes - nothing like what you're going through - but I sure was glad when they got put back with the rest of the buns and my routine was back to normal.

  2. Yep, every day until the abscess blows. She should get much better after it is open and draining.
