That is, unfortunately, mostly a show breed. We're also considering Silver Laced Wyandottes,
Buff Orpingtons,
and Speckled Sussexes. Now are those beautiful chickens, or are those beautiful chickens?

Choosing the Chickens
Now that we're a bit more confident in this chicken raising business, we're looking at other breeds and other hatcheries. Murray McMurray (http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/) offers a dizzying array of beautiful chickens, including the Partridge Wyandotte. That is, unfortunately, mostly a show breed. We're also considering Silver Laced Wyandottes,
Buff Orpingtons, and Speckled Sussexes. Now are those beautiful chickens, or are those beautiful chickens?

Yay! We have speckled sussex chickens. Their combs are a bit large for very cold weather but they dont' seem to mind the frostbite. Being chickens, they are supremely stupid. The hens mutter to themselves as they wander around looking for tasty bugs or choice bits of vegetation. Mutter, mutter, mutter. I told my husband they sound just like me looking for my car keys.
ReplyDeleteWe LOVE them!
