14 out, 5 in.

We don't know the exact timing, perhaps for a moment we had 25 chickens, 7 cats, 2 horses and a dog. Now we have less chickens but we have the kittens.

They are, of course, absurdly small and in apparent danger of being squished by their mother.

We have one black, one grey, one white with some black patches and two that look a lot like the mother, one with the facial pattern reversed.

Since, regardless of gossip, we are not a pair of aging lesbians we plainly do not need 7 cats. If anyone is willing to adopt a kitten we'll throw in an oven ready chicken, light in weight, flavour unknown, but genuinely free range.

  1. Rubbish, you are a farmer now so you need a slew of sclemming cats round the door every time you go out - they are for mouse and rat catching and therefore you feed them accordingly!

Boy, have I come a log way since I was a peasant!

  2. What about the winter, when there are no mice or rats? I don't want to be stumbling over cat corpses on those dark mornings when there's no snow.

  3. Hmm, I see I have things to learn.

However, it was nice to mentally relive my job of feeding the farm cats as a small child - your small kittens reminded me - not had pets as an adult. I have quick reflexes to this day!
