(mis) adventures

Not too much about misadventures lately so I feel duty bound to confess to two.

Last night we went for a little ride, very nice, lots of birds (Indigo Bunting, Rosy something Grosbeck), deer in the next field, groundhogs, all in all a blissful pastoral scene.

Then I fell off. "Back to normal, I see" said Anna, unkindly.

The previous owner had left a rotary flail mower in a pile of junk in the neighbour's field. After the neighbour and I had put up the round pen I had the naive idea of mowing the centre using this thing on the back of the tractor. It's a formidable appliance, something like this "super heavy duty" model shown here

and wider than the tractor. Of course it also sticks out a long way behind the tractor and the bucket sticks out a long way in front. The pen is only a 60' circle and so the combination of tractor and mower takes up maybe an eighth of it. The results of my mowing efforts were predictable, the great thundering of the flails elminates all possibility of hearing anyone shout "watch the front end", "remember the back's wider than the front" or anything similar. I demolished the pen. The one good thing about that is that the ring posts are installed with something called a pounder, pounding a pounder is good for upper body development. Pounding all those posts a second time must be better.
