Where's the bloody Summer?

It's always raining, or hailing in this case, I'm getting nowhere with the deck. I really want to finish sanding and staining this year.

Lot's else to do, of course, this is a cord that wanting hauling and stacking, we need four more so as to be set for next Winter.

In animal news, I see deer on the road most days,

and chickens on Anna's head from time to time.

This week I hauled three bags of chicken feed to the barn, one was for this year's chicks, the others wanted blending for the adult birds. The gate latch failed so the horses got in and blended the three for us:

This year's chicks just had to grow up fast, they're getting two-thirds adult food now.

  1. We had a break in and the horses ate half a bin of chicken layer pellets.
2 of them colicked, one quite badly.
We had to have the vet who pumped mineral oil, and anti gas meds into her stomach.

The thing to watch for over the next couple of days is signs of laminitis (founder). Chicken feed is rather higher in protein.

We have now moved our feed bin elswhere, so that if they storm the barn again they will not be able to get at it, unless they go up the wooden steps to the tack room....mind you one of them has tried that before so you never know.

  2. No sign of the horses foundering, I think the primary culprit was that donkey. I also think donkeys can eat just about anything.
