depositing the contents on the floor:
I wrote to Samsung pointing out that a gently used plastic shelf less than two years old ought not to fall apart and received a response I suppose to have been mechanically translated from the Korean. Ir reads, in part:
"We apologize for the inconvenience you may be experiencing with your RB1855SW.
Please note that as per our warranty policy, any physical damage to any of our products is not covered whether it could be accidental or not."

I think this is crap, the machine is not of merchantable quality, the company doesn't stand behind its products and it's not worth suing over a shelf. I suggest that one should buy appliances from other manufacturers.
Samsung are rather lacking in goodwill and foresight there.
ReplyDeleteSo I suppose you will have a hassle finding a replacement shelf now that samsung haven't offered.
They sent the name of a spare parts dealership. I expect they'll send a new shelf, for a fee. It's a bother though, a proper Frigidaire with pulsing chloroflourcarbons lasts half a liftime so I suppose that's more green overall as well as better value.
ReplyDeleteyep, you have to think middle class and john lewis for these things. If they last then the initial expense is worth it. Of course some people replace just because they don't like it anymore but I reckon if it still works ok then keep it.
ReplyDeleteWe ended up with 2 fridge freezers after we moved house. One is in the garage now and is looking for a new home. It's a very old Kenmore I think, but it works just fine.
That'll teach you - should've got the low fat "light" versions of your favourite sauces and dressings.
ReplyDeleteIt was that bloody Guinness. I only got it because we had an Irish dog coming and I thought we should be hospitable; too many calories for the shelf.
ReplyDeleteI suppose it's too late to make a comment about pints of heavy.
ReplyDeleteyep, thought so, missed the moment.
You're no on, Jimmy. You are no on.
ReplyDeleteUgh. After an hour on the phone to the supplier Samsung suggested I finally reached a person who wanted $7 for the shelf and $10 for shipping. He wanted to send it UPS which I, of course, refused; enough with their doorstep extortion.
ReplyDeleteI asked him to send it regular mail on the basis that it could get lost twice and we'd still be ahead of using UPS. He took the address and then said they don't ship to Canada. He gave me a number for their Canadian store. I reached a person there after only half a dozen tries. They don't keep parts for Samsung. The woman there gave me another number.
That number (866) 748-6666 is answered by a machine which says "to order a part please call
ReplyDelete(866) 748-6666.
I called 411 and got a number for the supplier, Transglobal, it wasn't the parts department but a woman gave me a number for that. A man took the model number, couldn't find it in his computer and said they didn't keep parts for Samsung. He gave me another number. I called it
"can you hold?"
"Sure"
"Cool"
That man then hung up.
I tried again. This time I got a woman who put me on hold. A message played repeatedly, "to order a part call (866) 748-6666".
ReplyDeleteEventually a man came on. The part is $48 in Canada.
"wtf, it's $7 in the US".
"Did you never hear of the exchange rate?"
I think perhaps Samsung should get the Rogers/Bell award for abysmal customer service.
Lol that was funny, well funny to read, not funny to happen, unless it's funny in a funny peculiar way.
ReplyDeleteIt's all good reasons to avoid Samsung in the future.
Could one of Anna's mob buy it and then send it on to you? Or even deliver on the promise of BBQ and beer?
Or buy glue and tape, bodge a repair and have a redneck fridge?
Last night a robot phoned me from Transglobal "your parts" (crackle splutter) something-something "and will be approximately" (silence) "days".
ReplyDeleteI suppose this to mean that they've taken the money and aren't going to supply the part.
This is an aspect of living in Canada that really gets on my tits sometimes, if we're going to live with the whole backwater-nothing-matters manana thing, then we might at least be in Mexico or Kerala and enjoy the weather.
You're right that I should have thought to have had the part delivered to Anna's mother, she's about to visit and might have been able to bring it.
Couldn't you fix it with one of those glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) kits that they sell in car accessory hops?
