We don't think it's a rat. We don't think it's a squirrel. It's nocturnal, striped and vegetarian.
We know what this one is. It's a gopher that's fallen into the well of the basement window. Whether it wants to be there or not it likely doesn't want that cat peering down the hole looking for it.
This morning the groundhog attempted an escape from the woodpile. Unfortunately, the dog was waiting. Several knocks on the head with a log convinced the dog to leave the poor creature alone.
I think the creature is a 'flying squirrel'. I pretty sure that that stripe on its side is the flap of extra skin that makes its wings.
ReplyDeleteI'm now wondering... what's the weather prediction for a groundhog wedged into a basement window well?!

That could be. I'll ask Anna to grab it and stretch its flaps.
ReplyDeleteThe groundhog has now moved to the woodpile where it hides under a tarp. The dog drives me nuts barking at it.
[wakes up]
ReplyDeleteD'oh!
I think a groundhog under a tarp indicates a sudden rise in temperature leading to dense fog and widespread flooding.
